 THE KNOWLEDGE
 COUNTRY OVERVIEW
PROMINENT PEOPLE

There are some names that come up all the time, and it makes sense to know al ittle about these people, even for the sake of conversation.

Sheikh Nahayan Bin Mubarak Al Nahayan

Sheikh Nahayan is the Minister of Education and has served in this positions since the establishment of the ministry in 1990. He is considered to be forward thinking in his views as well as having been successful in his role. While his remit is within Education, he represents the UAE at many events, and you are likely to see him in unrelated activities. It could be said that he is one of the busiest ministers in the UAE.

Mohamed Ali Alabbar

Mohamed Alabbar is closely associated with the fast track development of Dubai. It has been said that Sheikh Mohamed handpicked Alabbar for his talent. And that talent has been been used to good effect as the Chariman of Emaar. You will often see him speaking at high profile events in the UAE, and he is not shy of expressing his views. He is also a member of the Dubai Executive Council and of the board of the UAE Stocks & Commodities Authority. And if that wasn't enough, he is a keen golfer and Golf World magazine, named Alabbar among the 10 'powerbrokers' controlling the purse strings of the game's multi-billon dollar industry. He is chairman of golf in Dubai and hs been instrumental to putting the Desert Classic on the world stage.
