The official line is that the water is fine to drink. The Emirates spend a small fortune on desalination to get the water drinkable and usable in the home. The reality is that the expatriates don’t drink the tap water and instead go for bottled water. If you are at a restaurant ask for Masafi or Al Ain Water or the equivalent. Evian will be more expensive. Despite this – the UAE is not somewhere where you are going to get an upset stomach from the water, so it is completely safe to brush your teeth etc.
