Emirates - Many people refer to the country of the UAE as the Emirates, but while true, the name of Emirates is building a brand all by itself as one of the leading as well as fastest growing airlines in the world.
Emirates Airline - Dubai’s national carrier. Emirates Airline was established in 1985 and flew it’s first European destination in 1987 to London. It proudly holds the title of seventh largest airline in the world based on international passengers travelled and achieved the airline of the year award in 2001 and 2002.
Emirates Towers - Emirates Towers, owned by Jumeirah, has been, for years, the icon of the Sheikh Zayed Road, and one whose pointy spires represent Dubai. You need only view the before after pictures of Dubai to see that the Emirates Towers were there beforehand and everything built up around it. The Towers continue to be one of the best business hotels in the UAE, for their centrality, and sevice.
Emirati - Emirati is the term used to describe UAE Nationals. Another term used to give the same meeting is Local.
Emiratisation - A move towards filling positions with UAE nationals rather than expatriates. Until recently, this has been common practice in government sector jobs but now emphasis is being placed in the private sector due to better financial benefits. Higher salaries are also prevalent in positions aimed at UAE nationals.
Etihad Airways - Etihad Airways was granted the title national carrier of the UAE by Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. It is a relatively new airline which first took to the skies in November 2003 and growing incredibly fast with introductions of new routes every month bringing it’s total to some 40 plus destinations.
Expat - Expat is the shortened form of the word expatriate and refers to the bucket of foreign workers in the UAE, which is estimated at between 80-90% of the total population and includes those from the subcontinent as well as those from the West.
