The Western Hajar Mountains

Western Hajar is home to some of the most beautiful mountain ranges. In Oman towards the northeast and in the United Arab Emirates in the eastern region lay the Western Hajar Mountains. If you love to observe the activities and actions of nature then visiting these mountains is a must. There are breathtaking views for as far as the eye can see. While ascending you will notice a subtle change in the vegetation as around the base there are many colorful shrubs. On climbing steadily upwards you will come upon wild trees such as fig or even olive. Farther up there are junipers along with the apricot and even the pomegranate fruit trees which grace the terrain. There is even wildlife that you could spot along the way up the mountain and you might see a Mountain Gazelle or Arabian Tahr hiding behind the trees. There are even lizards and at least six different kinds of geckos that you could spot.

When you are done enjoying the mountains then stop in at Nizwa Fort. Here you can see an actual fort that is built above the underground stream. It took 12 years to build the fort that dates back to 1668 A.D.

The city of Nizwa Souq has many products for sale from agricultural to hand made crafts. There are vendors in the streets selling different kinds of fish and meat some will have fresh vegetables and fruits, while others are selling silverware and gold. There is something for everyone to enjoy while visiting with the vendors.

The city of Tanuf is just a short drive from Nizwa. In Tanuf you can see some of the most amazing waterfalls cascading down the steepest mountain sides. Around the bases of the waterfalls you can sit down and enjoy a nice picnic with your loved ones.
