Masafi

Experience the Quaint and Rustic Masafi

Masafi in the United Arab Emirates is located at the edge of the Hajar Mountains which also happens to be the cross-point of three roads leading to the important settlements of Dibba, Dhaid and Fujairah. A small village which started out as a fuelling stop for people driving to and fro between Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah soon evolved into an important oasis town fortified with a trading post and laced with modern highways.

Masafi in Arabic means  pure water and it is no surprise that this is home to the largest manufacturer of bottled water in the area. Named after the town which is well known for its fresh water springs, the company was established in the village itself in 1976 and draws its bottled water from wells some of which are as deep as 300 metres. It has risen to a position that the name ‘Masafi’ is more synonymous with bottled water in UAE than the place.

On the whole, Masafi is divided between the two Emirates of Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah. The border is symbolized by an unfinished building which was the scene of violence during the dispute and still exists in the same incomplete state. The nearest airport is that of Ras Al Khaimah and following the motorway by car would lead to the Masafi Friday market and the town.

Although located next to the motorway, you’ll be surprised by the calm and peaceful ambience of the town which features imposing contemporary residential houses standing next to ancient shabby dwellings
