The Green City of the Future

Masdar City is a whole new way of life is currently in progress and if successful will be the world’s first city to run solely on renewable sources.  Masdar City is a breakthrough concept which was initiated in 2007 and has won popularity from ‘green’ followers world wide.  When complete, Masdar will be Abu Dhabi’s answer to a totally green city entirely reliant on nothing but renewable energy that is car- free, waste- free and carbon- free.  Transport within Masdar will be via Personal Rapid Transit Systems, a sleek, all electric, driverless car which navigates its way around magnetic lines.  Normal transport systems such as train and cars will be available to use outside of the Masdar city zone.  Water will be reused as much as hygienically possible and all biological waste will be reused for compost and fertilisation purposes.  All other waste will be recycled or reused.  A zero carbon free city is hard to imagine given that in this day and age everyone is totally reliant on some form of energy to get them through the day and with the Middle East’s abundance of high temperatures for most of the year, an alternative carbon – free air conditioning system really has to work!

However, the government of Abu Dhabi have full confidence and aim to be the pioneers in this mission and have thus granted a huge slice of capital in order to see its success.  As per VisitAbuDhabi, more then 1,500 visionary companies will set up office here and benefit from 100% foreign ownership and zero taxes.  The Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, created in collaboration with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), has opened here and runs a variety of masters and research programs.  Masdar city is about 17 kilometres from Abu Dhabi city, close to Abu Dhabi International Airport and will accommodate up to 40,000 residents plus ‘green’ themed restaurants, offices, entertainment and shops, some of which are already opened. you can also visit Masdar City to see a glimpse of the future
