The Best Indian Restaurants in Abu Dhabi

Indian

High End

Angar, $$$

Yas Island +971 2 656 0600

If you don’t mind paying for ambience as well as classy Indian cuisine, Angar will impress.  The restaurant has terraced seating overlooking the marina, perfect for the cooler months and loud during the grand prix.  In line with the theme of Yas Hotel, the Indian cuisine here is a modern take on traditional delights, with some dishes actually toned down to suit the clientele, however the chef can tailor the chilli factor so don’t be afraid to speak up.  This is elegant food which is well worth the trip to Yas Island.

Mid Range

Indigo $$$

Beach Rotana, +971 2 697 9000

Indigo is the perfect setting, has fantastic food and is not too extortionately priced.  The restaurant layout makes it possible to have a memorable meal for two within their alcoves or dine with friends.  Comfy soft seating all add to the warm yet relaxed vibe and a glass covered kitchen allows you to be nosey.   The menu keeps to many traditional dishes but introduces an array of fusion using meats such as duck and seafood pakoras.  Take note, that at the time of writing, young children were not welcome after 9pm sittings.  Please enquire when making reservations.

Ushna $$

Souk at the Qaryat Al Beri +971 2 558 1769

This beautiful restaurant is worth the 15 minute drive from the city.  Situated in the Souk, Qaryat Al Beri, in the cooler months opt to sit on the terrace with lovely views of the Grand Mosque.  Dubbed, better then its sister branch in Dubai, Ushna ticks all the boxes for a perfectly romantic meal or even dining with friends.  The menu is Indian fusion but not overtly adventurous so not to upset traditional curry lovers.  Ingredients are finely selected and their mocktails and cocktails are super.  The only downside is the restriction on children under the age of 3 dining at the restaurant after 6pm.  Please enquire when making reservations.

India Palace $-$$

Salaam Street +971 2 644 8777

India Palace has been around for years and is a popular choice with the western expats who mostly work in the banking district around the area.  Not too flashy from the outside, but once you’re in, the woody charm and regal authentic feel will wet your appetites.  For a tasty authentic curry without the bells and whistles head here and on your way out, take a walk to the front of the restaurant where little Indian trinkets are sold.

Budget

Moti Mahal $

Salaam Street, +971 2 674 2121

If you crave a good curry, but don’t fancy dressing up, Moti Mahal is a cut above the tacky street vendors.  Food is good and the seating area is clean and up to date.  If you are used to the hotel restaurant glamour and service you may be a tad disappointed.  But for no frills dishes which aim to fill the belly – this is right up your street.

Chappan Bhog $

Salaam Street (behind ADNOC): +971 2 677 8864

Pure vegetarian and pure value for money.  You can feed a family of four here for around 100 Dhs.  You will be spoilt for choice with dishes like pani puri, paw bhaji and a mixture of thaali dishes, which come with freshly cooked rotli and parotha (Indian breads).  Ambience is canteen style eating, but the restaurant is brightly lit and seating is clean.

Grapeshisha Choice:

Asha’s $

Khalidiya Mall +971 2 6359300

For those of you who don’t know Asha Bosle, she is a legendry Bollywood singer and this chain, named after her, makes food as tender as her voice.  You wouldn’t think a mall restaurant would get so much respect, but this place will score very highly in your little book of eateries.  From the décor, to the poppadoms and finally the great tasting food, the whole experience is thumbs up and you won’t break the bank.  We especially love the paneer and their lamb dishes – very tender, very Asha.
