 LIFE IN DUBAI
DUBAI NIGHTLIFE

The nightlife scene in Dubai is lively with some of the world's top DJs in attendance to play the beats for you to dance the night away. Whether you are into your happy house, your soul and R&B, your Arabic beats, your hardcore, or just your regular popular fare, it is all catered for in the diverse venues that exist in Dubai. It's usually best to dress up a little, and wear your glam clothes as the bouncers will sometimes have any excuse for you to not get in. It's also preferable to go as a mixed group or turn up early. Entrance costs range from free entry to anything up to 50Dhs. Tuesday night is the traditional "Ladies night" where ladies drink for free, and Thursday is the big club night where most bars are filled to capacity. Wednesday's and Friday's also feature due to differing weekends, but Thursday is the night to hits the clubs in Dubai.

The Clubs & Bars that we recommend
We have put together a selection of the bars and clubs that you could try out. They are usually based at the hotels due to the licensing of alcohol, and while we have only given a few to choose from, you can be sure that the Dubai nightlife is pumping. Be aware that some places are notorious for shady activities. Mention the Cyclone to anyone and they'll know you're a paying customer! A few of our legit, non dodgy, recommendations are listed below:

Dubai Recommendations
The Big ones are: Trilogy at the Madinat Jumeirah with its' amazing views; Peppermint Lounge on a Friday which is in one of the ballroom's at the Fairmont; Kasbar at the Royal Mirage; Mix at the Grand Hyatt hotel which is the Middle East's largest nightclub; Zinc at the Crowne Plaza Dubai for the R&B crowd; Oxygen at the Al Bustan Rotana; and Boudoir at Dubai Marine. Other places worth checking out include: The super cool Rooftop Bar of the Royal Mirage; The Irish Village where the pints keep flowing; Blue Bar at the Novotel WTC that has some great live bands; Icon at the Radisson SAS; 360 Degrees at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel; Vu's Bar at the Emirates Towers with a view of Dubai from the 51st floor; Jimmy Dix at the Movenpick; Buddha Bar, which needs no introduction; Ginseng at Wafi City, for pre-drinks; Jambase at the Madinat Jumeirah for jazzy numbers; Barasti at Dubai Mina Seyahi for drinks at sunset; Sho Cho's at Dubai Marine; Long's Bar at Towers Rotana that has a long long bar; and The Agency or Scarlett's for a civilised drink which are opposite each other at the Emirates Towers.

Abu Dhabi Recommendations
Abu Dhabi nightlife, unfortunately is not as lively as that of Dubai. And, as the city goes through a period of transition, a number of bars have closed down or are under renovation (inlcuding AM/PM and Lab, which were long favourites of the expat crowd) which leaves very little choice. However, there are still a few: Sax at Le Royal Meridien draws the in crowd week in week out; Zenith at the Sheraton is a newish club which plays a good mix of East and West; Lots of Expats congregate at the Meridien at the Captain's Arms and NRG Sports BAR; The Colosseum at the Marina & Yaught Club, which is a little meat marketish; 49ers at the Dana Hotel which is basically an American Bar; Harvestor's at the Sand's Hotel where expats who have spent too much time away from home spend their hours; Hemingways and the The Jazz Bar at the Hilton are popular spots; Heroes at the Crowne Plaza is a good sports bar to meet with friends; where Rock Bottom is one of those underground joints to wonder at; and for cool cigar bars, it has to be either Cloud Nine at the Sheraton or Cristal at Millennium.
