ABU DHABI CHEAP EATS by Andrew Popplewell

"Local" restaurants generally don't get a lot a press, and those in Abu Dhabi even less so, as the larger publications tend to focus on hotel complexes where alcohol is served. However, although the Abu Dhabi international culinary experience is on a par with other cities of the world, the big name restaurants tend to lack a little in Abu Dhabi authenticity. We have provided our Abu Dhabi cheap eat recommendations which are all unlicensed, popular with a cross section of both locals and expats and, obviously, relatively cheap.

When dining, asking the waiter for his recommendation will generally get a blank look so try and decide what you want or be adventurous! We have given you our picks, if you are completely lost for choice. We've also given you the landmark for the taxi drivers so you have no excuse if you visit the capital. Prices indicated are typical for a two or three course meal for two people including soft drinks. Go on, stuff yourself, and live large on a budget!
